Sony just announced that Andy Serkis, Venom 2 (starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson), which is now titled Venom: Let there be carnage, will open not on October 2, 2020, but June 25, 2021. Now occupying they slot that Warner Bros, The Batman just ditched, then it’s possible that Warner Bros will return the favor by grabbing that early October slot for his Chris Nolan’s Tenet (currently slotted for July 17) or Wonder Woman 1984 (currently set for August 14). At the very least, the bioavailability of a Prime slot (with no fighting over IMA screens) giver Warner Bros some options.

The film’s title makes it official that Woody Harrelson‘s Cletus Kasady aka Carnage, who made a last-minute cameo in Venom, will be the main villain in the sequel. Venom was a global hit for Sony when it released in 2018. Despite the mixed reviews it received, the film made a splash at the box office, earning over USD 850 million in worldwide gross. The film also featured Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed in pivotal characters.

The new film is once again produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal, shepherd of all Spider-Man related properties at Sony pictures. In addition to Venom: Let There Be Carnage, that slate includes Morbius starring Jared Leto as Marvel’s vampiric anti-hero an unlimited Spidey spin-off Spider-Man: Far From Home, produced in conjunction with Marvel Studios and set for a July 2021 launch, although that could change.
